Wednesday, 17 February 2021 – Good and Evil

Good morning Church family

Have you ever wondered why God put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the garden and then told Adam and Eve not to eat of it? “The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”” Genesis 2:16-17

Was it because He wanted to keep them in some ignorant state and protect them? The answer is no, so why? Dr Stanley Toussaint says that God put the tree there, so that they would learn the knowledge of Good and Evil through obedience not by eating the fruit. By obeying God’s command they would come to know what good was through Him personally and therefore learn by default what evil was. But instead they chose to obey Satan so they followed the path of disobedience instead; learning what evil was first instead of good. Separated from God, consequences followed.

God’s desire is to offer us salvation and a second chance for us to know the difference between good and evil through obedience to His ways. Only by doing life under God’s rule and blessing will we be assured of entering the true rest He wants for those He loves. These are some of the things we are looking at in our Bible Study tonight. If you haven’t been before why don’t you join us.
