Good afternoon Church family
As we proceed with Lent today, let’s focus on the following scripture set by the lectionary today,
“Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity And cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me. Against You, You only, I have sinned And done what is evil in Your sight, So that You are justified when You speak And blameless when You judge……For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.” Psalms 51:1-4, 16-17
For our journey through Lent it is not the sacrifice that counts but the condition of the heart it evokes. A broken heart is one that can be made whole by God because it realises the measure of grace shown us and a contrite heart is a heart that responds in repentance, throws off pride and say God you are the owner of this heart do with it what you will.
