Tuesday, 13 April 2021 – Desert Wastelands

Good afternoon church

Psalm 107:4-9 says “Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.”

One profound truth is that we can not begin to thrive in life if Jesus is not the centre of who we are and what we do. God is even more important than the essentials of life like food and water. At the root of every thirst, at the root of every hunger, at the heart of every longing or desire in life is ultimately a lack of nourishment from God. Now that is not to say we don’t need those things, what it means is that we tend to seek fulfilment for our needs in just about everything but God. and it is no wonder then that we are never truly satisfied. However, if we start with our relationship with God, if we make Him the starting point of all things then we discover that only He can completely fill those thirsts, hungers, longings and desires. Only when we are fully nourished by God will life make sense, will who we are make sense, will what our purpose is be meaningful. Only God can truly satisfy us. Complete and utter surrender to our loving God is the answer to every question in life. Once we start on this path we begin to truly experience all the other things we want or need in a fullness that is indescribable. We realise we have been settling for second best. Jesus wants to lead you by a straight path to a land where you can truly settle, are you allowing Him to do that in your life?
