Reflecting on Easter: Rediscovering the Passover Tradition with Pastor Laurie
At Easterour hearts are drawn to the profound significance of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. At Rimutaka Baptist, we recently had the privilege of delving deeper into the roots of Easter by exploring the rich traditions of the Passover meal, guided by Pastor Laurie. This special event, held on Friday, March 29th, offered attendees a unique opportunity to connect with the ancient practice of the Seder meal and its enduring relevance to our faith today.

Through captivating photos captured during the event, we invite you to join us on a journey of reflection and discovery as we explore the importance of the Passover tradition to Jesus and his followers.

Pastor Laurie guided us through the intricate rituals of the Passover meal, known as the Seder. Each element of the Seder holds profound symbolism, reminding us of God’s faithfulness and deliverance throughout history.
As we gathered around the table, we partook in special cups of wine (in our case grape juice), symbolising the promises of deliverance that God made to the Israelites. With each sip, we were reminded of God’s unwavering commitment to His people and His power to set them free from bondage.

The Matzah, unleavened bread, served as a poignant reminder of the haste with which the Israelites fled Egypt and the humility with which we approach God. Through its simplicity, we were reminded of the profound sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, becoming the ultimate Passover Lamb whose blood was shed for our salvation.

Throughout the evening, we lifted our voices in songs of praise and thanksgiving, rejoicing in God’s faithfulness and provision. We reclined to the left, a symbolic gesture of freedom and rest, celebrating the liberation that God brings to His people.
As we reflect on our time together, we are reminded that the Passover tradition is not merely a historical event but a living testament to God’s enduring love and redemption. Just as Jesus and his disciples observed the Passover before His crucifixion, we too are called to remember and honour this sacred tradition, recognising its profound significance to our faith journey.
May we each carry with us the lessons learned from the Passover meal, embracing the freedom and redemption that Jesus Christ offers to all who believe.
