Thursday, 20 May 2021 – Faith that Justifies

Good afternoon Church family,

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:1-6 NIV

This is some wonderful teaching we read in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians; being called by God is such a privilege, we owe Him such a debt of gratitude for all He has done for us! Last night at Bible study we had a great conversation around faith and works. We are not saved by works but by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. However, after we have attained saving faith we are empowered and inspired to do good works which reflect the Holy Spirit’s transforming work within us. The reformers had a great saying which I shared with the group:

“Faith alone justifies but faith that justifies is never alone.”

Blessings

Laurie
