Wednesday, 11 August 2021 – Winter Garden

Good morning Church family,

“Yours is the day, yours also the night; you established the luminaries and the sun. You have fixed all the bounds of the earth; you made summer and winter.” Psalms 74:16-17 NRSV

The other day I was reading a post about Gardening and I was surprised to read some fascinating facts about how good Winter is for your garden. Did you know that during winter most plants response is to shut down new growth above ground and focus on growing deeper roots below the surface. We often think of winter as a time of dormancy but that is far from the truth. Growth is happening we just don’t see it. Also many bulbs and fruiting trees require a steady period of cold in order to bloom and fruit well. And you thought Spring was where all the action was at! Spring is actually showcasing what has been prepared for all winter.

Jesus often taught on a believer’s need to be sown in good soil. As the chief Gardener of the world, we can see the wisdom of His ways in His creation. We shouldn’t be so quick to cast off the winters of our lives as insignificant even when they are unpleasant. This might be a call by God to trust him more, rely on Him more and grow deeper in the faith. Spring will come and our Saviour will look upon you and admire the beautiful soul you are; He said it before, You are the best of His Creation.

Blessings

Laurie
