Good afternoon Church family
A verse we are all familiar with is “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace” Numbers 6:24-26 NIV; probably made more famous by the song the blessing.
But there is a much deeper meaning then you might be aware of. Notice the Lord is said three times, this ancient blessing is based on the Trinity. Something they did not fully understand at the time. Nevertheless, one commentator says the first refers to Father God, who is the one who blesses and cares for us. The second refers to Jesus and the reason God’s face can now shine on us is because we are in Christ and new Creations, God can look on us with pleasure as we are washed clean by the blood of Christ. Be gracious to you is Jesus’s gift of grace to all mankind. The last mention of the Lord, refers to The Holy Spirit. As we have been made right with God, His Spirit can now live in us, turn to us and be at work within us giving us peace.
So today I want you to stop for a second and glory in the fact that God looks upon you in such a light. It’s a marvellous thing, soak it up as you would the rays of the sun or Son in this case!
Blessings
